I’ve got another dozen or so cables up for auction today. These are good brand name cables from makes such as ultralink, philips, and monster cable too. So here’s hoping that I make some funds with this stuff anyway.
Here’s what I’m finding with selling all this stuff. I’m not missing it for the most part. There’s a couple cables I’m keeping but I’m simplifying my audio and home theater requirements as my entertainment needs are changing. Want to know what my lastest hobby is? Reading. Yup, and not just searching and scanning blog posts but real books. I’ve become a real fan of kobobooks.com which is Chapters/Indigo/Coles here in Canada, and I’m getting books for cheap cheap cheap. I’m also finding that I love to read on my iphone with the iphone app they have. I always have the phone in my pocket and I can read anywhere. Today I was ten minutes early for doctor’s appointment and so I read a few pages. Waiting for the subway, I can read a few more pages while I wait. I know the Amazon kindle is the darling of the christmas season this year, but as much as I’d like one, I wonder if I’d leave it home? I guess it still beats a bookshelf full of books.
Oh, right: back to my stuff I’m selling. I’m not missing it so far… and I’m enjoying the hundreds of dollars in my paypal account that I can apply to my debt. Here’s what I’ve got for sale today so far:
Philips Home Theater Cables. These are good burly cables that I found for cheap,I think. They were a deal at the time but I don’t need ‘em.
Joe Rocket Tank Bag. I bought this on VISA a few years back when I bought a new jacket and thought It would be great for tossing your phone and keys in. It has four little wings with magnets that stick to the gas tank on your motorbike. I found I never used it, as it’s too small for my needs. So… up for auction she goes.
Ultralink Challenger Cables. I’ve got two pair of these. One pair is 1 Meter long, and the other is a 2 meter pair. These are good value brand name audio interconnects.
Ultralink Digital Audio Cables. I bought 3 of these, and now I’m selling three of these. I think I wa as at a computer show where I found these. If I recall, they were a great deal and I paid only a fraction of the cost of retail.
Ultralink Mach 1 Digital Audio Cables
I bought these the same time as the pink ones and got a great deal on these too if I recall. These were designed with the custom home isntallation market in mind.
Monster Cable THX Digital Audio Cable. This is a good cable that’s over marketed. I overpaid for the brand name and the so-called THX certification. The hot pink ultralink cables above are as good quality for a fraction of what I paid for this thing.
That’s it for today. You can see I’m starting to get at some stuff besides cables, but cables are still going to be the theme for some time. For some, it’s comic books and others games, but for me part of the problem was I spent so much on home theater and home audio. In a way, that’s fine but I’m finding I don’t need seven speakers and all the costs associated with it. I’m just as fine watching a DVD on my computer. Sometimes what you think you need, and what you really need are worlds apart. I still enjoy music, but I’d be happy with a small integrated amplifier small speakers and ONE set of quality cables to hook it all up.
It’s a lot of work photographing the stuff, selling it, shipping it, but once it’s gone I don’t miss it. The less you have, the simpler your life becomes. You’re not tied down by crap.
