Items I have sold on eBay So Far. Day 47

I thought I’d make a little list today of all the stuff I’ve managed to get rid of on eBay this past month or so… According to my stats, I managed to sell $990 worth of stuff since I started this little adventure and $421 in the past 30 days. It might not seem a lot, but it’s allowed me to pay off my Mastercard at a faster rate than I would have otherwise.

1. I sold my older Blackberry I managed to see $308.00 from this one item alone.

2. Ortofon OMB-10. This was an impluse buy when I obsessively scanned the used audio sites and just bought more and more and more…$20.50 towwards the debt for this little guy

3. Prince TOPSPIN 15L w/ DURAFLEX Tennis String I had two sets of this tennis string, and only saw $3.75 from this.

4. Prince Silencer Vibration Dampener I had 3 of these. Sold ‘em for $2.76 total.

5. Prince Silencer Vibration Dampener I also had 5 of these. Sold ‘em for $8.01

6. Dunlop Performance Tennis String One set fetched $2.26

7. Dunlop Gutech Tennis String I had five sets of these and they went for $10.51 total.

8. Zone Superspin Tennis String I had 12 sets of this string and saw $8.51 from the sale

9. Wilson Hammerlast Tennis String and Prince Titanium Pro Tennis String Both of these fetched $7.55

10. Prince Synthetic Gut This sold for $8.51 for four packs.

11. Toa Gold Tennis String 10 packs of this string sold for $12.75

12. Prince Prism Tennis String I had about 50 packs of this stuff, and they all fetched about $20 for each ten pack, so about $100 in total.

13. Wilson Performance Plus Tennis String, Dunlop Synthetic Gut, Babolat Superfine Play Tennis String, Dunlop Maxspin Tennis String all went to one buyer. These four went for $10.54 total.

14. Wilson Championship Nylon, Wilson Extreme Nylon, Imigut Nylon and TOA Super Leona all sold for a bit over $10.00.

15. Sufix Durlon Synthetic, Sufix Durlon Plus, Forten Maxi Gut sold for $10.04

16. Ortofon OMB-10 went for $39.50

17. Griffin Powerjolt sold for $5.55

18. 30GB Apple iPod and a few accessories and cables sold for $128.00

19. Sony Earbuds sold for $4 for the three pair I had.

20. Men’s Fila Sports Watch sold for $2.75

21. Esquire Watch went for $28.00. It needed a battery and a band repair too.

22. Swiss Military Watch sold for $42.00

23. Monster Speaker Cables sold for $50 for two pair I had kicking around.

Zhaolu DAC sold for just a touch over $100, which is fine – that’s all I paid for it.

25. Logitech Harmony 659 Remote Control sold for $28.00

26. RCA Audio Splitter sold for a lousy buck.

27. Audioquest G Snake sold for about $7.00

28. Monster Coax Cable sold for $12.00

29. Monster Cable THX 1100 sold for $6.50

30. S video cable and a VGA Breakout Cable sold for about $4 total.

31. Apple Video Adapter sold for a few bucks too

And, that’s what $990 looks like towards the debt reduction. It’s been worth the effort, and I’ve learned that I can live with much less stuff. I currently have about a dozen or so auctions up with various cables and will list those too when they sell later this week or so.

If you’e got credit card debt you want to get rid of and have lots of stuff to get rid of, it doesn’t matter what you’ve paid for it – get that stuff listed and sold. It’s worth the effort.

BMO MasterCard Bill Edition. Day 9

Well, the good news (if you can call it that) is that my address changes seem to be taking and today, I was blessed with my bill from BMO MasterCard. The damage: $16,919.93. That’s $257.11 higher than I thought my bill was, dammit. The good news, is my spending has settled since I’ve moved here to Toronto, and I’m back to minor expenses such as, food, rent and lattes.

Purchases this month:
1. The Gap – $157.06 for jeans. I flew here, and had room to take either clothes or my camera equipment on the plane and I chose the camera equipment. So the $150 is for jeans, and a new sweater. I’ve been blowing off the purchase of new clothes and I’ve got some stuff I can sell here to offset the costs. yes, the purchase is on credit but I really did need some new jeans. I would have paid cash, but I had the pleasure of paying first and last month’s rent at the same time so thought I’d put the jeans on the card.

2. Pioneer Gas Station: $34.29. For the month of October I freeloaded/stayed at my sister’s while I looked for a place to call home here in Toronto. I borrowed their second car and the least I could do was put gas in it considering they put me up for 3+ weeks. This is an example of when credit is SO easy, as it’s the fastest payment method – swipe, and you’re off. Considering this pretty much totaled my transportation costs for the month, I don’t feel too bad charging $30 for gas. The trick, now is to pay for it.

3. Budget Truck Rental: $138.45 I had moved here in Toronto from Moncton, and needed a home for my stuff, so I tossed it all in a storage locker and then rented a truck to get the stuff from storage to the new digs. I’m settled, so this is a one timer, but still. It’s $134 I didn’t really have and now I’m paying 18.5% on it.

4. Rogers Wireless $369.25. This was my final bill from Rogers from Moncton. Trouble is: I didn’t catch the bill before I moved and did the address change, so unknown to me, this bill is sitting there in Moncton. Trouble is, I’m in TO. So, when I do finally change my address with Rogers, I get a “Dear Mr Fitzsimmons….our records indicate…” letter from them. So, the EASY thing is to just clear up with them and pay ‘em on the credit card. I’m robbing peter to pay paul here. not good. not good at all.

5. Appleby Self Storage. $243.60. I moved here, tossed ALL my stuff in my storage and found a place and moved some of the stuff out of storage and into this tiny condo. Then, I moved to a smaller storage space, which I’m slowly emptying the storage space and selling the stuff on eBay. The bummer is the storage locker is in another city (about a half an hour) and add to the fact that I’ve got no wheels, and this makes it not the smartest move. But, I did shrink my storage costs by $100. I’m not paying $243/month to store empty boxes and stuff I don’t really need. But, I am going to be paying the $150/month for some time as I have some furniture that I can’t replace, and I’m only here for a year. It’s possible my next apartment, I may need the furniture down the road.

6. Interest. $257.11. This one hurts the most. I’m at about $200 for my VISA too so that’s a car payment in the costs of carrying the debt every month.

I guess there’s no need for a dumb move of the day, as I just listed six there. Sigh. I ADDED to my debt by almost $1000 this month and only kept the wolves at the door with minimum payments this month too. This is all due to cash flow mostly. I’ve got lots of unpaid invoices out there due to my move…

Good News

Not much, but I made .54 cents with this site alone yesterday. My ebay auctions are up to $108 with DAYS left to go, so there’s more good news. That $100 is pretty much all with the tennis string I have on auction and if I were in the right mood I could have just chucked it. It’s a good thing I didn’t. If there’s a takeaway here it’s that people will buy anything. The EASY thing would have been to toss it, but now I’m at least up $100 for stuff I had sitting in storage. With a bit of luck, I could have $1000 to throw towards this monster by mid-dec with all my eBay sales.

Sacrifice of the Day

I’d buy a Nikon 20mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I’ve got a 24mm lens, but I find that it’s not quite wide enough when shooting with a DX camera. This is definitely on the wish list, but it’s a want. Not a need. But, a guy can dream.

If there was a theme for today, it would be string. lots and lots of string. Tennis string, to be exact. I my efforts to save/sell and do what I can to eradicate this still debt of mine, I put some tennis string I had for sale on auction: How much you say? Oh, about 28 auctions worth.

Other News:

The BlackBerry Bold I had on auction sold ($300) and already delivered to the new owner, so I can put those funds towards the debt. I’ve also made a whopping $4.32 with this site to date with advertising. Considering this site is only a week old, that’s not too shabby actually. The goal is to average or find $46/day over 1000 days to get this debt paid off. I’ve got some larger, more expensive items I can sell but I thought I’d try with tennis string, as it was what I could carry on foot back from my storage locker. I have also had absolutely no bids on my DVD player, so up on eBay it goes too. I’ve got $100 into that stupid DVD player a few years back, and it’s going to go for an absolute song. It was made in 1999. One cool feature is it has a headphone jack – you don’t see those on $29 players from Wal Mart.

Oh, I did make some more money: Amazon sales. Somebody bought a few kids toys through my links so there’s six bucks or so too. Ad that to the advertising income and that’s $10/month which is still peanuts, but it’s a start. Would would happen if I could increase the ad income, say 20% each month? I’m happy to keep plunking away on this day by day.

I don’t have a dumb move of the day for you today as I was busy with the ebay auctions, but I’ll get back on track tomorrow. Actually, wait! I do. My dumb move of the day: A whole bunch of tennis string I bought on eBay when I was all “Mr. Tennis” a few years back. Now, I’ve got a bunch of tennis string that will go for peanuts and I’m still paying for the pleasure of storing the string for FIVE years. yeah, you read that right: five years. of interest. shoot me.
