Yesterday, I wrote about Bank of Montreal BMO Bank locations. I have a method to my madness, I do. As the only people reading this blog are friends and family so far, I’d like to change that, and Friday’s Post was an attempt, abiet not a very good one. I tried to write an informative post on Bank of Montreal Locations, but my heart wasn’t into it, as you can see – I gave up about halfway, but thought I might as well post it, just to test. You can’t win if you don’t play, and all that jazz.
But there was a really, really, good reason why I wrote so much about the Bank of Montreal, and it’s branch locations: I’m trying to get search engine traffic to this site. It seems I’ve picked a very, very, hard nut to crack with debt, or credit or get out of debt niche that I’m targeting. Credit card companies pay you $50 and up for an application: Think about it: If I were a credit card company I’d pay $50 to get a guy like me to use their cards. The bastards at the credit card companies made $5,000 off me last year alone. Think about how much money I have made the credit card companies, and all they had to do was to offer some website $50 to get a lead for a credit card application approved the odds are really good that that credit card application will turn into a balance that’s carried onto a credit card and then that’s a $50 well spent.
I had actually started this site with the intent of promoting credit cards cause, hey – I could use $50. But I found the credit card companies are really diligent on making sure all their latest rates and terms are up to date. I’d do OK with listing the offers, but wouldn’t do so well at keeping the cards up to date. The credit card companies actually threatened to disable my affiliate account, which wouldn’t be much of a loss, as I’ve made ZERO. But, they’re persistant little fellas with the constant emails, so I killed all the credit card listings and started to write about my tales of financial woe instead, which if nothing else, is fun.
Now the challenge is to make the fun, profitable. Or, better yet, forget the fun – I’ll take the profitable
And if you’re still with me this brings me back to my Bank of Montreal Story: I’m getting zero hits for debt, get out of debt, freedom from debt, debt freedom plan, or any credit card keywords. But heres’ the thing. I’ve started to get some search engine traffic from Google for search terms related to Bank of Montreal: How do I pay my Bank of Montreal Bill, Can I pay my Bank of Montreal bill late, and so on… and if there’s one thing I have learned in my 43 years of wisdom is to give ‘em what they want. Dont’ try to to change the search engines. If they think your site is about Bank of Montreal, then bank of Montreal it is. At least for now, with this post they might decide that this post is about credit cards, or bank of montreal credit cards, or debt from credit cards.
In a way, web publishing and blogging is really the same as personal relationships (not that I’m an expert by any means) but I’ve found out the hard way if you do this: Listen. Really Listen and then meet the needs you’ll find that your needs get met too. I listened to google, and google tells me I’m all about Bank of Montreal bill payments and credit cards as that’s where the minimal traffic is coming from right now. So…I’m telling Google hey – you’re right. Yes Dear. I AM all about BMO Mastercard. We should date. You should make me your number 1, as I’ve got ALL you need about Bank of Montreal Mastercard. You don’t need to look anywhere else, as I have all the answers, big G. I’ll even bring flowers.
Now, I may not have all my ducks lined up to get any traffic for this search term, but I’m still going to try. I have to compete with the Bank itself which is Canada’s fourth largest bank an in a way, it’s like trying to compete with George Clooney. The upside is if I even come close, I’m in George territory, which would be very nice. A front page listing on Google for get out out of debt, or even George Clooney come to think of it would bring me a lot closer to getting out of debt.
To make money online you really just need the traffic. How to get traffic? Well, the easiest way is create value. I’ve talked about it before, but today’s post brings it full circle again. I’m giving Google (which is really the only search engine that matters) by writing about the Bank of Montreal again. And if the big G rewards me with more relevancy about the bank, and sends me more traffic, you can be sure I’ll be writing about the BMO again. In some ways it’s just a numbers game. Writing about debt right now, won’t do much good as there’s way too much competition, but writing about banks in canada which have much less of a market (but still big enough) might be a way to attract some attention. And then once I have your attention, I can convert that attention.. there’s a percentage of people reading that WILL click on my ads, or follow a link, or do something that I want them to do. The trick is to get the eyeballs here, which is what I’m trying to do with this 1000 word wonder.
Maybe it’ll work, and maybe it won’t – but you can’t blame a guy for trying.
We all can’t be George Clooney.
